Email Promotions to Keep the Customers Coming

When it comes to doing business online, the number one thing you need to succeed is a constant stream of customers visiting your website. Sometimes, though, the customers just stop coming. Here are some ways to use email marketing to revive your customer base and get people back on your website.

#1: Target your best customers.

Try targeting your best customers (who ones who have made the most purchases with you) with special “Thank You” promotions. Because 80% of your sales will be coming from 20% of your customers, repeat buyers are definitely a segment of your list that deserve special attention. Show them that you appreciate their loyalty by offering them great discounts, bonuses, and gifts.

#2: Target customers who haven’t bought anything in a long time.

Send this segment a special offer to win back their business. This is sometimes referred to as a “We want you back” promotion. Sometimes a simple bonus discount or gift is a very effective way to win back people who haven’t purchased from you in a long time. They liked your offer enough to buy from you once, so they might just need a little nudge to buy from you again.

#3: Target subscribers who have been on your list for a long time.

Send this segment of your list a chance to upgrade their subscription to a paid product. Since they have been reading your content for a long time, they probably value what you have to offer and enjoy the information that you provide. Try to position your product as an upgrade with even more value than the free subscription and some of these subscribers will be sure to purchase.

#4: Target subscribers or customers who share a specific interest.

Target each group based on their specific interests and you will see better results with your campaigns.

Some of these strategies, you’ll notice, will require you to know a little bit more about the people on your list than just whether or not they are customers or subscribers. Most of the time this is information you should already be keeping track of anyway (such as which product someone has purchased or how long it has been since they bought from you).

If you can collect more specific information from the people who visit your site, then you can target your email promotions in some very sophisticated new ways.
