A Review of HostInsight.com

admin | September 28, 2012 | 0 Comments

HostInsight.com provides those looking for a web host with excellent ratings and reviews from customers just like you. There’s no better way to rank web hosts than by using the helpful information that is provided from readers. While some websites may rank hosting companies based on the features that they offer and their price range, this doesn’t always give you a good idea of how often the website is actually up, how efficient the customer service is and if the features live up to those that other web hosts offer. HostInsight does not write their own reviews, but rather provides you with reviews from real readers who have had experience working with a number of different hosting companies.

HostInsight Ranking Process

The best way to find hosts that you may be interested in hosting your website, is to first narrow down the sites by country. Choose whether you will be hosting your website in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia or internationally. Readers will then see hosting companies in a numbered list. The top results are some of the most popular websites rated by those with real life experience. Hosts can receive anywhere from one to five star ratings, also chosen by customers. Read the comments from users to see what others have to say about the company, the price, the features and their overall experience from hosting their website with the selected provider. You can help out too by submitting your own votes, rankings and comments for web host providers. It takes just seconds to make a vote and help the overall ranking process at HostInsight.

Hosts Included at HostInsight

At HostInsight, you will currently find around six pages of web hosting providers. Hosting providers can submit their websites to HostInsight to be listed and receive ratings and rankings from users. With over 50 different hosts currently listed on the site, users are sure to find one that suits all of their wants and needs when it comes to the perfect host for their website. Whether you are looking for something cheap, a host that offers a lot of web space or one that provides easy add-on features, you’re sure to find it all at HostInsight.

The HostInsight Difference

What to Look For in an Email Host

admin | September 20, 2012 | 0 Comments

Email servers are typically split into two distinct groups. The first group is one that offers servers based on Linux and other open source operating systems. Typically, these servers offer lower overall prices, without sacrificing the intuitive and innovative features packed into higher-priced servers based on Microsoft technology. Then, of course, there are the email servers that specifically run Microsoft Windows Server, and operate using only Microsoft’s own proprietary technologies. While more expensive, they’re also better suited for large businesses and those with a significant investment in Microsoft applications.

That said, each server has its ideal market. There are plenty of customers who can benefit from each type of server, and the recommended email servers for various organization will vary based on their needs. So, which server is best for which type of operation?

The Case for Open Source Servers: Tech-Savvy Companies and Smaller Organizations

The primary benefit of using an open source server comes from the server’s price tag. Email servers that use Linux-based operating systems are often available at a fraction of the price that similar Microsoft-based servers are. That makes them perfect for small businesses that simply cannot afford the added expense of Microsoft’s licensing fees, as they’re passed on via a hosting company’s monthly fees.

These servers are also a sure bet for companies that are a bit more technologically savvy than some of the larger enterprises choosing email server technologies. While open source options are definitely cheaper than competing Microsoft varieties, they’re not always the most intuitive or easy to use. In fact, they often come with a real learning curve that can create real headaches for bigger businesses.

Tips on Finding the Best Web Hosting Package for Your Small Business

admin | September 4, 2012 | 0 Comments

As a small business, it can be difficult to compete with the larger, more established companies. Larger companies have staff members or agencies to deal with the social media aspects of the business and to help them optimize their website for search engines and conversions. In turn, this means they generate high traffic levels and profits. If you are a smaller business owner, you might not  even have enough staff members to handle all aspects of the business. Therefore, you must make sure you have a strong online presence so that visitors to your website make a purchase, recommend your website to friends and return to purchase more products.

This is achievable if you include key features on your website to invoke a sense of trust with your customer, and more importantly make the experience of being on your website easy and clear.

Clear menu layouts, strong photography, unique written content and a strong homepage which immediately outlines what your website has to offer with links to your online shop are some of the features you must include. However, hosting is one of the most important aspects of a website, which is often not considered and researched as much as it should be. If your website goes down or is slow to load, your hard work, reputation and customer trust will be severely affected.  Remember, your competitors are always a click away, so don’t give them any excuse to go elsewhere.

It can be difficult to choose the right hosting package for your business, especially as each company claims to be the best, the most reliable and the cheapest. When searching for hosting, there are a few factors to bear in mind so your small business does not suffer:

Hosting uptime: This refers to the amount of time a server is running successfully without going down. This is shown as a percentage of uptime, therefore if a server has an uptime of 95% uptime it means any sites which are also on this server will be running live at this percentage of uptime and subsequently down 5% of the time.

If you site is down for a short period of time, this is less problematic than a server which has gone down for 24 hours or more.  This can happen, and can be worrying and stressful to manage, especially for small businesses trying to cover a large workload without dedicated technical staff to handle such problems.

Customer support: If your site goes down, you must make sure the hosting company is able to support you and answer any questions. If you site is down, you are losing money from potential sales, so it is vital that there is 24 hour support to help you with any issues.

Online shopping is 24/7 so you must make sure you are able to handle problems, and that your hosting company can help support you. It is better to pay more per month for strong hosting customer support, rather than pay for cheaper hosting with a company that won’t provide you with help or information out of standard working hours.

Bandwidth: Check the bandwidth limit on different hosting packages as some companies might limit this which means if you go over your allowance, you will have to purchase more. Hidden expenses add up and it can put the budget of a small business in jeopardy.

Bandwidth refers to the amount of data which is downloaded from the server to your website visitor’s computer. Each time they click on a new page, they will be downloading more data from the host server. The more visitors you have and the more pages they visit, the higher amount of bandwidth you will require. Don’t get caught out by limited hosting packages.

Security: With personal information being sent between the server and your website such as customer bank card details and personal information such as addresses, it is vital this information is secure. Therefore, the hosting must be secure and use encryption.

As with all aspects of business, do your research and don’t become too focused on free or ultra cheap hosting. It is important that it is reliable and a supportive base for your company.
